There’s something magical about dried flowers. Not only are they easy to work with, beautiful to look at and long-lasting; they are also very on trend at the moment.

I wanted to make a simplistic wreath for my new countryside cottage. Though it will be some months before the renovation is done and I can actually hang it in my home. But it’s good to be prepared, and I love to have homemade items to use for the interior decoration, because it adds atmosphere and personality.

For a long time I’ve had this absolutely amazing golden ring from Cooee Design. I knew I wanted to do something special with it, but I wasn’t sure exactly what. So for months it just lay there in my studio, waiting for me to make up my mind. Sometimes creativity, and ideas takes a bit of time to emerge, right.

I bought a bouquet of dried flowers in my local supermarket. Dried flowers used to be difficult to find, but today you can find them in many shops and markets. I picked a bouquet in natural colors, then cut all the flower stems off and put them into small tiny bouquets.

I then wrapped the tiny bouquets onto the gold wreath using flower wire. Since I didn’t have enough flowers to cover the entire wreath I just placed the flowers on the bottom of the wreath. This creates a simplistic and elegant look.

In the end I was left with a centerpoint that revealed the green wire I had used. So I took a silk ribbon in a matching color and tied it in the center to cover the meeting point of the small flower bouquets.

If you don’t have an iron wreath, you can also make a twig wreath of tree trimmings. Simply form the branches into a circle shape and wire them together. Then decorate with dried flowers.
