Autumn In Skagen, Denmark

Skagen, Denmark by Christina Greve

These days I’m in Skagen, the northern most part of Denmark preparing for my upcoming landscape and travel photography workshop. The raw autumn weather is a challenge. The wind has been so strong, it´s been impossible to use a tripod out on location. And I´ve been wearing a funny-looking hat to keep my hair from blowing in front of the lens. At one point I almost lost my hearing while standing on the top of a hill, that´s how strong the wind was. Ohh, the charm of being a photographer… and what we do to get those great photos.

I can’t help but being excited though, because I absolutely love to take moody landscape photos. The unpredictable weather and the dark sky creates a solid foundation for magical light and aesthetic color tones. And just as painful it is to be outdoor in the freezing cold wind, just as cozy it is coming back inside to edit photos, lit the candles and brew a nice cup of coffee. So even though the soon to come winter is my least favorite season, photography helps me make the best of it. Passion always triumph the cold weather and the endless stream of dark days. I guess you can say that my camera is my therapist during this season.
