Prioritize what really matters – let go of the rest

One of the things about running a photography business is that you need to do so much more than taking pictures!

In my little business there´s always something new to do; blogging, creating workshop lessons, engage on Facebook, design and update websites, answering emails, write articles, plan shoots, find locations, editing photos..yep, the list just goes on…

Lucky me I LOVE ALL of that! The challenge is to find the time for everything.

So how do I balance it all?

How do I balance work and life?

The truth…. I don´t!

Let me explain:

After many years as an entrepreneur, I know now that the work/life balance is impossible to master.

I found that when I constantly was focusing on finding the balance, I would only be reminded how difficult it was to achieve and it made me feel like a failure!

I simply tried to do to much – to do everything!

I decide to put my focus somewhere else! I made a new strategy!

Now I make hardcore priorities in order to make room for what I really want.

Prioritizing can be extremely hard, either because of other peoples expectations or your own ambitions – but training yourself to see and feel clearly what is the most important thing/project/task for you to do, will make it easier.

The strategy I use consists of a simple phrase:

Do it, delegate it, or delete it!

Every day I use this phrase to help myself get the best day possible. It helps me focus on what´s important, it helps me focus on my goals and it supports me when I need to say no.

I´ll go over my to-do list and decide which tasks I need to do, which I need to delegate and which to delete and let go.

And in this process I don´t separate work and life – I put all of it in one to-do list. That´s just what works best for me.

I think especially us women, we tend to say yes, waayyy to much, no?

The end result…. we risk burning out and worse case scenario we loose our motivation and creativity.

Remember you never need a reason to say no.

So in the end let me ask you some questions to consider:

1. What can you say no to this week?

2. What on your to-do list can you delete or delegate?

3. What tasks on your list is so important to you, that you need to do them first?

4. How can you incorporate more fun and me-time into your life this week?

Let me know how it goes, okay :-)

Much Love,

Christina

Tomorrow I wanna sleep late. According to your advice how to get closer to where I want to be tomorrow, it’ll be best to buy a cosy blanket today… ;-)
Have a great and well rested weekend, charming and priority-making Christina!

Uwe.

Perfect timing with this! Suddenly, I’m noticing that this photography hobby isn’t something that I can float along with anymore – there’s so much to learn and so much to do – and, then, there’s family – the most important. I’m really struggling to balance! so, thank you, once again, for your words that go right to the heart of the matter in such a practical and encouraging way!
