This fall I´m super excited to invite you for a 3-day workshop in Skagen in the Northern most part of Denmark. I fell in love with the charming little seaside paradise many years ago and three years ago I bought my second home in the heart of Skagen - an authentic 100 year old yellow townhouse cottage. Skagen is part artistic bohemia, part fishing village and part picturesque landscapes. Danish and international artists have lived and worked here since the 19th century, largely drawn here by the fascinating and constantly changing light and the varied landscape scenes. Skagen is also a haven for food enthusiasts, and the beautiful settings offer plenty of opportunity for relaxation and recreation.
During Summer Skagen is full of tourists, but when fall arrives the streets gets quiet, the wide sandy beaches turns empty and a blanket of peacefulness falls over the area. This is my favourite time of year to capture travel and landscape photos in Skagen and its surroundings. The colors of the landscape are magnificent and the changing weather creates perfect conditions for moody, artistic and dramatic images. Skagen is simply the most idyllic spot to nurture your imagination and encourage creative growth and relaxation.
Over the three days, we will explore and capture the local lifestyle and landscapes, visit the historic homes of the old masters and enjoy regional cuisine. In the cozy, intimate settings of my private residence and studio, we will dive into the creative process, exploring the art of nature and travel photography. You will learn how to create, shoot and edit beautiful photos and we will discuss the use of light, camera settings, scene selection, styled storytelling creation and finding your personal style.
While days will be dedicated to learning and exploring the area, evenings will focus on the simple joys of gathering, sharing meals and chatting about life. Our day begins a 10am where will meet in my studio. After an introduction of the plans for the day, we will bike or walk around Skagen with our cameras. No need to be in good shape for these trips as the area is completely flat and everything you´ll explore is within a super short distance. In the afternoon there will be a break. This is time to reflect, and re-charge which is important to fostering the creative process and finding personal inspiration. During the break you are welcome to relax in the comfort of my home, go prop hunting in the nearby shops, edit your photos, write in your journal or go back to your hotel room for some privacy.
Who: This workshop is for photographers of all levels - beginners, aspiring photographers and professionals, lifestyle and travel bloggers, authors, foodies, instagrammers, and creative souls. From the amateur looking to capture beautiful photos and learn about photography, to the creative professional wanting to grow a strong portfolio, and expand their career/business.
Equipment: Bring your camera; a digital DSLR, a mirrorless camera, a point and shoot or even just your iPhone. Bring also your laptop and if possible a tripod (optional). It's not important that you know how to shoot in manual mode - you will get help with that during the workshop if needed. Good lens choices for travel and landscape are the 30mm, 40mm, the 50mm and/or a quality zoom lens. Christina uses the 40mm f/2.8 and the 24-72 f/2.8 zoom lens during the workshop.
Travel: Closest major airport for international travel is, Aalborg (AAL) located about an hours drive from Skagen. You can fly to Aalborg from Paris, London, Copenhagen, Hamburg or Amsterdam and many other cities. From the airport you can rent a car, take the train or grab a taxi. The nearest train station is Lindholm station. If you arrive from Norway or Sweden, you can also take the ferry to Hirtshals or Frederikshavn. Feel free to contact me if you need more help in planning your trip: firstname.lastname@example.org
Accommodation: I recommend booking yourself into one of the cozy, famous and historic boutique hotels in Skagen. Hotel Brøndum and Hotel Plesner is both a short walk away from our workshop location. Ruths Hotel is just a five-minute drive by car and you can park for free just outside the workshop location. Alternatively, you can book something via Airbnb.
Cancellation policy: Due to logistics, the people and planning involved, this is a non refundable retreat. Please make sure you to have a valid travel insurance before booking.
I can´t wait to welcome you and show you everything I love about Skagen!
